your ITC guide. Put down roots immediately as you plant a tree in

Gaze upon the Temple Mount from the Tayelet, as did our forefather,
Abraham, when he prepared to sacrifice Isaac. Make the shehehiyanu

| Friday, 16 May - Diversity in the Old City
|
Private prayer and reflection at the Kotel
Explore the Southern Wall Excavations and have a virtual, computer-
ized encounter with the ancient Jerusalem Temple at the Davidson
Center. Take in a rooftop view of the four quarters of the Old City of
Jerusalem. Meet with Father Pockrot, the Patriarch of the Armenian
Community in the Armenian Quarter. Free time for lunch and shopping
in the Jewish Quarter. At the Burnt House, experience a moving,
informative presentation on the conflicts leading to the destruction of
Jerusalem and the second Temple. Shabbat services at the hotel or at
a choice of neighborhood synagogues (a pluralistic array of suggestions

Enjoy a visit to the Hartman Institute, where Rabbi Herzfeld studies
each summer. Visit the state-of-the art Holocaust Memorial Museum
and the Children's Memorial at Yad Vashem. Visit the Herzl Exhibit,
where the Father of Modern Zionism and his untiring quest are
"brought to life" before your eyes. At Har Herzl Military Cemetery
encounter the "silver platter" on which the Jewish people have acquired
- and continue to acquire - our state. Free time for supper (on one's
own) Evening: In the Kotel Tunnels, walk alongside the Western Wall's
massive foundation stones.

| Monday, 19 May - First Century Freedom Fighters or Fanatics?

Ascend Masada by cable car for a tour of this magnificent excavation
and a discussion of the terrible dilemma faced by its Jewish population
during Roman times. Spend some time today at a Dead Sea resort
hotel, enjoying its spa facilities, lunch, and the amazing Dead Sea.
Visit the excavation of Kumran, home of the mysterious ancient sect
that authored the Dead Sea scrolls. Return to Jerusalem

| Tuesday, 20 May - Layers of History - Political briefing at the hotel.

Travel north along Israel's newest highway, with a view of the
Security Fence along the way. Walk through the fascinating, under-
ground Roman water system that once fed ancient Caesaria at Alona
Park near Binyamina (strap-on water shoes, small towel needed) See
ancient history come to life at the newly-opened multi-media center
against the backdrop of ancient Caesaria. Excavations include an
impressive amphitheatre and aqueduct. Meet members of Israel's
Druze community, hear about their fierce patriotism, and enjoy their
warm hospitality. Take in a wonderful overview of the Carmel region at
Mukhraka-Keren HaCarmel, where Elijah the Prophet faced off against

| Wednesday, 21 May - Religious Diversity in Israel's North

Continue north to Acco, city of three religions: Visit a choice of the
following: a Crusader fortress; the new exhibit at the adjacent
Turkish Baths; the amazing Tunisian Synagogue in Acco, which is com-
pletely decorated with mosaics depicting stories from Jewish history
and traditional texts; the British prison, where Jewish freedom fight-
ers were incarcerated (number of stops depends on time available)
Visit Har Halutz, a Reform community near Karmiel and learn about
the joys and challenges of their life in the Galilee. Enjoy lunch with
members of Har Halutz. Tour the synagogues, courtyards, and alley-
ways in the mystical city of Tzefat, including free time for shopping
(Catered) dinner meeting with Rabbi Edgar Nof and members of
Haifa's Progressive synagogue, Or Hadash

|
Travel to the Golan Heights and gaze down over the Galilee from Tel
Faher, as the Syrians once did. Travel back in time as you visit the
excavated Talmudic Village in Katzrin. Taste the fruits of the region in
the form of award-winning wines at the Golan Winery
Ascend to the peak of Har Bental, where you can enter army bunkers
and take in a panoramic view at the crossroads of three countries
(time permitting) - Enjoy a Kinneret boat ride. Travel to Tel Aviv for
