|
Later start this morning. Enjoy a panoramic bus tour of the sparkling port
city of Haifa. Walk through the spectacular Bahai Gardens and learn a bit
about the Bahai faith and its utopian vision. Meet members of Israel's
Druze community in Dalyat al Karmel, hear about their fierce patriotism,
and enjoy their warm hospitality. Walk through the fascinating, underground
Roman water system that once fed ancient Caesaria at Alona Park near
Binyamina (strap-on water shoes needed; towel optional) Evening: Meet
with Rabbi Edgar Nof at Congregation Or Hadash to hear about the joys
and challenges of running a Reform synagogue in Haifa including a catered
dinner at Or Hadash.

| Wednesday, 30 June - Layers of History |
Walk through the amazing Tunisian Synagogue in Acco, which is completely
decorated with mosaics depicting stories from Jewish history and traditional
texts. Tour the quaint Old City of Acco, with its Crusader Castle, British
prison, and El Shazar Mosque; hear about the city's importance in battles
for the modern state (number of stops depends on time available) Take the
cable car to the mesmerizing ocean grottos at Rosh Hanikra. Visit the synagogues,
courtyards, and shops of the mystical city of Tzefat, including
plenty of free time for shopping. Proceed to the Tiberias region. Hotel

Visit Dona Gracia House to become
acquainted with the fascinating life of this 16th century Jewish heroine and
Tiberias financial leader via dramatic story-telling, short film, dress-up in
period clothing. Ascend the Golan Heights. Stop to gaze down over the
Galilee, as the Syrians once did. Group may split: Travel back to the time
of the Mishnah as you visit the excavated Talmudic Village in Katzrin,
including an amusing film that brings a Talmudic story to life (tanur shel
achnai) OR Taste the fruits of the region in the form of award-winning
wines at the Golan Winery. Glide down the Jordan River in a kayak

See ancient history come to life at
the newly-opened multi-media center, against the backdrop of ancient
Caesaria. Excavations include an impressive amphitheatre and aqueduct; free
time for lunch (on one's own) and shopping in Caesaria. Continue south to
Tel Aviv. Browse through unique craft items in Nachalat Binyamin's colorful,
open-air market, and see modern Tel Aviv in action. Hotel check-in. Friday
night services on the beach with Rabbi Lutz. Shabbat dinner at the hotel

waiters who will teach you sign language during your meal, followed by Na

|
At Independence Hall, relive Ben Gurion's moving declaration of the State.
Walk though the historic Neve Tzedek neighborhood, a UNESCO Heritage
site. Enjoy an extremely impressive presentation of the amazing achievements
of the Palmach at the new multi-media Palmach Museum (if available)
Enjoy free time for a Mediterranean swim. Group dinner at Maganda
Yemenite Restaurant.

Volunteer at "Table to Table;" participate
in the important mitzvah of leket as you harvest crops for the poor. Climb
down into the amazing underground, pre-State bullet factory built by the
Haganah under the noses of the British at the Ayalon Institute. Create
your own beautiful painted wooden Judaica item, in an enjoyable workshop
at the Kakadu studios. Ascent to Jerusalem Gaze upon the Old City of
Jerusalem from the Tayelet, as did Abraham when he prepared to sacrifice

| Tuesday, 6 July - Jerusalem Then and Now |
Tour Jerusalem's "City Lines," including Gilo (story of shooting from Beit Jala), Abu Tor (a divided
neighborhood), Ramat Rachel (1948 and today); view Security Fence in East
Jerusalem. Stumble across many authentic archeological finds in a hands-on
dig through archeological matter that has been dumped into Emek Tzurim
from under the Temple Mount. Walk through David's City, the most ancient
section of Jerusalem, built by King David, including the newest discoveries.

| Wednesday, 7 July - Freedom Fighters or Fanatics? |
Early departure for the Dead Sea Region. Ascend the mountain fortress of
Masada by cable car for a tour of this amazing excavation and a discussion
of the terrible dilemma faced by its Jewish population during Roman times.
Enjoy a walk through the beautiful Ein Gedi nature reserve and review the
biblical story of kings David and Saul that took place there "on site"
Stop for a dip and mud baths at Mineral Beach on the amazing Dead Sea.
Stop for a camel trek through the Judean Desert at Eretz Beresheet.
Return to Jerusalem for a free evening.

Center. Pause for prayer and reflection at the Kotel. Enjoy a special walking
tour in Jerusalem's Old City, created by the WUPJ's Salz Institute for
Progressive Judaism and guided by the Book of Psalms with Rabbi David
Wilfond. In the Kotel Tunnels, walk alongside the Western Wall's massive
