Morning arrival in Israel (ideally), to be met and assisted at Ben Gurion
Airport by your ITC representative. We begin our tour by going way
back in time at Neot Kedumim, a biblical landscapes park; take part in a
shmita-friendly tree planting activity there. Visit the underground, pre-
State bullet factory built by the Palmach under the noses of the British
at the Ayalon Institute. Hotel check-in and orientation

| Tuesday, 5 August - Foundations of the Modern State
|
| At Independence Hall, relive Ben Gurion's moving declaration of the
State. Enjoy an impressive presentation of the amazing achievements of
the Palmach at the recently opened multi-media Palmach Museum (if
available) Shop for unique craft items in Nachalat Binyamin's colorful,
open-air market. Travel north - In historic Acco, visit the new exhibit
about the years of Muslim rule of the city at the adjacent Turkish
Baths, the British prison, where Jewish freedom fighters were incarcerated;
the amazing Tunisian Synagogue, which is completely decorated with
mosaics depicting stories from Jewish history and traditional texts (number
of stops depends on time available) Proceed to the Galilee Region

| Wednesday, 6 August - In the Footsteps of Mystics and Sages
|
Travel to the Golan Heights and stop to gaze down over the Galilee, as
the Syrians once did. Ascend to the peak of Har Bental, where you can
enter army bunkers and take in a panoramic view at the crossroads of
three countries. In Katzrin's Talmudic Village, tour the wonderful excavations
take in a whimsical short film that animates a famous story from
the Talmud. Spend this afternoon in the mystical city of Tzefat. Tour
its synagogues, courtyards, and shops, with plenty of free time for
shopping. Optional family crafts activity (weaving, beading, paper-making,
pottery) available in Tzefat's artist colony while others shop

Thursday, 7 August - The Jordan River Valley
Stop at the ancient Beit Alpha Synagogue to examine its striking mosaic
floor; enjoy a short, amusing film about plans to renovate this ancient
synagogue two millennia ago. Tour the remarkable excavation of the
ancient Roman city of Beit Shean, including a magnificent Cardo, many
residences, amphitheatre, etc. Swim in the wondrous natural pools at
Sachne, fed by underground springs (towel needed)
Ascent to Jerusalem - Take in a breathtaking view of the Temple Mount
from the Mount of Olives or Mount Scopus. Hotel check-in followed by a
free evening in Jerusalem.

| Friday, 8 August - Jerusalem of Old
|
Group may split: In the Kotel Tunnels, walk alongside the Kotel's massive
foundation stones OR Tour David's City, the most ancient section of
Jerusalem, built by King David, including the recently excavated Spring
Tunnel. Explore the Southern Wall Excavations and take a virtual, computerized
walk through the Temple Mount at the Davidson Center
Enjoy free time for lunch and shopping in the Jewish Quarter
Travel back in time as you tour the Jewish Quarter, including the
Herodian Mansions (if available), Cardo - Kabbalat Shabbat services at a
synagogue of your choice or at the Kotel (bus available)

Jerusalem, including the Church of the Holy Sepulcher with your guide

Visit the newly-opened state-of-the art Holocaust Memorial Museum,
Children's Memorial, and Valley of the Communities at Yad Vashem
Visit the multi-media Herzl Exhibit, where the Father of Modern Zionism
and his untiring quest are "brought to life" before your eyes
Tour the architectural wonder of the Supreme Court building and focus
on Israel's justice system. Optional (not included in tour price): Visit the
site of the ancient fortress of Herodian, built by Herod and used by
Jewish fighting forces throughout the ages; also the site of an ancient
synagogue and King Herod's newly discovered tomb; home hospitality

| Monday, 11 August - Freedom Fighters or Fanatics?

| Early morning departure to ascend Masada by cable car. Tour this magnificent
excavation and a discussion of the terrible dilemma faced by its
Jewish Zealot population. Take a dip in the amazing Dead Sea
Travel through the beauty of the Negev Desert
In the Great Crater, make colored sand bottles from the vari-colored
sand along the crater's slopes. Visit Ben Gurion's Hut in Sde Boker for
personal insight into the life of this outstanding Zionist leader and
Israel's first prime minister. Travel to Machtesh Ramon to gaze into the
other-worldly crater and marvel at this work of nature

Early departure for Petra to explore the amazing decorated red rock
formations of the ancient Nabateans. Enter Jordan at the Arava crossing

treasury, the Roman theatre, and the impressive caves and rock formations
of this Nabatean City.
