Most museums and art galleries are open today (details and suggestions will be provided) Havdallah together on the beach.  Delicious dinner at Maganda Yemenite Restaurant

Layers of History

Travel north along the Mediterranean Coast Visit the wonderful excavations of ancient Caesarea, including an impressive amphitheatre and aqueduct and the newly-opened multi-media center, where ancient history comes to life.  Tour the synagogues, courtyards, and shops of the mystical city of Tzefat Meet with a Tzefat Kabbalistic artist in his/her gallery to explore.  Jewish mysticism through the prism of artistic creations.  Enjoy a boat ride (weather permitting) on Lake Kinneret followed by a delicious dinner at Decks.

In the Footsteps of the Kabbalah

Take an exciting jeep ride as you ascend the Golan Heights, off the beaten track.  Gaze down from the Golan Heights over the Galilee, as the Syrians once did. Hear the story of the most expansive land battle in the world, which took place here during the 1973 Yom Kippur War.  Group may split: Enjoy a tour and tasting, at the delicious chocolate factory at Kibbutz Ein Zivan followed by a chocolate-making workshop OR Tour and wine and cheese tasting at the kibbutz’s boutique Bahat Winery Take pride in our soldiers at an IDF base and then enjoy a barbeque dinner with the soldiers.

The Jordan River Valley and Ascent to Jerusalem Early departure as we bid farewell to the Galilee and plant a tree in Israeli soil in honor or in memory of a loved one.  Travel south along Israel’s border with Jordan.  Take a fascinating agricultural bio-tour at Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu, pioneers in organic farming; hear about workshops they run for Jordanian farmers in using owls for pest control; meet the creatures they use for pest control.  Stop off at “Abraham’s Tent” for a Camel ride and biblical hospitality before ascending to Jerusalem.

Early departure for the ascent by cable car to the mountain fortress of Masada for a tour of this amazing excavation and a discussion of the terrible dilemma faced by its Jewish population during Roman times. Visit the unforgettable Memorial Museum and Children’s Memorial at Yad Vashem (age 12 and over only); optional Biblical Zoo visit for younger children (must be accompanied by an adult, not included in tour price)
At the Har Herzl Military Cemetery honor the memory of Israel’s fallen heroes, who have given their lives to establish a secure Jewish homeland. We’ll visit the resting places of Theodore Herzl, Golda Meir, and Yitzhak Rabin.  Visit the colorful outdoor market of Machane Yehudah, and see how Jerusalem locals prepare for Shabbat (time permitting).  Welcome Shabbat with thousands of others at the Kotel (Western Wall) to join in the prayers, dancing, and people-watching.  Enjoy home hospitality as a group in the home of a Jerusalem family for a delicious Shabbat dinner accompanied by a program of Sabbath blessings, stories and songs and featuring a variety of Jewish ethnic dishes.

Morning at leisure for Shabbat rest or time to visit with family and friends Afternoon: Explore the wonderful fortress that houses the Jerusalem Museum at the Tower of David to learn about the history of Jerusalem throughout the ages followed by a Walking tour through the colorful quarters of Jerusalem’s Old City.  Havdalah followed by our Final Dinner Party, with music and dancing and a toast to the New Year at the hotel.

In the Kotel Tunnels, walk alongside the Western Wall’s massive foundation stones.  Explore the Southern Wall Excavations and learn more about the Jerusalem Temple at the Davidson Center.  At the “Dig for a Day” Program at Beit Guvrin, have a hands-on experience of archeology as you uncover actual artifacts while taking part in an ongoing archaeological dig; “cave crawl “ also available for the adventurous.
