Saturday, 1 July – When You Come Into the Land (Deut. 26:1)

  • Arrive in Israel
  • Transfer to Jerusalem (can be pre-arranged)
  • Check-in to the Mt. Zion Hotel in Jerusalem.
  • Overnight: Mt. Zion Hotel, Jerusalem

 

Sunday, 2 July – Jerusalem –The Old City

  • Walking tour of the Old City for a wonderful presentation of the history of the city and a rooftop overview
  • Tour of Jewish Quarter including the Herodian Mansions, Cardo, Broad Wall and Rooftops followed by free time to shop and explore on own.
  • Visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in the Christian Quarter, including a section of the Via Dolorosa.
  • Lunch on own
  • Visit the newly-opened state-of-the art Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Children’s Memorial at Yad Vashem
  • Welcome dinner at Darna Restaurant – hosted by the Lahav-Rosenband Family
  • Overnight: Mt. Zion Hotel, Jerusalem

 

Monday, 3 July – Erez’ Bar Mitzvah in Jerusalem!

  • Take part in a moving Bar Mitzvah Ceremony with Rabbis Lebeau and Hoffman at Robinson’s Arch – egalitarian section of the Western Wall (to be escorted by drummers).
  • Discover the archaeological story of the Western Wall and episodes of Jewish life 2,000 years ago at Robinson’s Arch and the Southern Wall Excavations.
  • Visit the Western Wall and connect to an ancient Jewish legacy.
  • Walk through the Western Wall Tunnels to discover underground Jerusalem.
  • Celebratory Bar Mitzvah lunch at David’s Harp (Kinor David) Restaurant

  • Visit to the Tower of David – Museum of the history of Jerusalem
  • OR Optional visit to Bethlehem to see the Church of the Nativity.
  • Watch the Night Spectacular – Sound and light show at the Tower of David.

Tuesday, 4 July – The Judean Desert, Masada and the Dead Sea: Freedom Fighters or Fanatics?

  • Set out early across the Judean Desert and ascend Masada by cable car to tour the ruins of Herod’s palace and the last outpost of Jewish independence. Discussion: Dilemma facing the Jewish Population during Roman Times
  • Take a mud baths and swim in the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth, at a local resort.       The resort also has a fresh water pool and spa facilities. Massage and spa treatments available by prior reservation at own expense.
  • Enjoy a camel trek through the Judean Desert and experience Bedouin hospitality at Kfar Hanokdim for a delicious dinner. Sit around the firepit, bake pita bread, sleep in an authentic desert tent (or upgraded cabin–sukkah) and gaze at the desert stars.

Wednesday, 5 July Cross country and Christian Sites in the Galilee

  • Early morning Sand Surfing at Ashalim Dunes
  • Depart for northern Israel.
  • Guided tour of the former Atlit detention camp where the British held Holocaust refugees, who tried to enter the country “illegally”. Board an “illegal immigration ship” to watch a multimedia presentation about the heroic pre-State immigration.
  • Lunch on own.
  • Visit Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth.
  • Visit the Mt. of the Beatitudes, and stand at the site of the Sermon on the Mount.
  • Explore the fishing village of Capernaum, where Jesus gathered his first disciples and began his Ministry in the Galilee OR

Tabgha, the traditional site of the miracle of fish and loaves and the Church of Multiplication with its 4th Century mosaic floor

  • See the wreck of a 2,000 year old fishing boat discovered in the Sea of Galilee at Beit Yigal Alon.
  • Early evening boat ride on the Sea of Galilee.
  • Check–in to the Lavi Hotel on Kibbutz Lavi in the Galilee
  • Dinner at the hotel

Thursday, 6 July – Beatitudes, Mystics and the Strategic Golan Heights

  • Tour mystical Tzfat’s old synagogues and picturesque alleyways and discover the origins of our Friday night service where Lecha Dodi was written.
  • Kayak or raft down the Jordan River Great way to cool off on a hot day.
  • Optional: Get baptized at Jesus’ hallowed baptismal site in the Jordan River OR try riding a Zip Line in to the Jordan River
  • Jeep tour of the Golan Heights to gain a special perspective on Israel’s complex geopolitics, as we visit former Syrian bunkers overlooking Israel and then look out from the peak of strategic Mt. Bental.
  • Barbeque dinner with young Israeli soldiers who are giving some of the best years of their lives to the defense of Israel.

Friday, 7 July – The Mediterranean Coast

  • Hear about kibbutz communal life on walking tour of Lavi led by a local resident.
  • Set out early to travel across northern Israel to Rosh Hanikra.
  • Descend by cable car to explore the Grottos of Rosh Hanikra – Beautiful sea caves formed by the forces of wind and water.
  • Tour of the Old City of Acco: Venture beneath the streets of present day Acco to explore the Crusader Knights Halls. Then continue to old port to look out across Haifa Bay from the Acco’s medieval walls.
  • Look out over greater Haifa region from the top of the Bahai Gardens on Mt. Carmel. (The Bahai faith originated in the Ottoman Empire and is today one of the world’s second fastest growing religions!)
  • Visit the ruins of Caesarea, including its Roman Theater, Amphitheater, Hippodrome and Promontory Palace.
  • Travel to Tel Aviv
  • Check in to the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Tel Aviv’s Mediterranean Coast.
  • Festive Sabbath/Shabbat dinner at hotel

Sunday, 9 July – The Hebrew City and the Jewish State

  • Visit the Weizman Institute of Science, one of the world’s leading scientific research institutions.
  • See the Bauhaus architecture on Rothschild Boulevard for which central Tel Aviv was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Relive David Ben Gurion declaring the new State of Israel at Independence Hall.
  • Visit a home for children at risk run by the Jaffa Institute – Soccer game with kids living at the home.
  • Tour the alleys of Old Jaffa, the ancient port city once known as the Gate of Zion.
  • Transfer to Ben Gurion Airport for a late night return (and arrive to US the same day!) See you again soon!

Monday, 10 JulyEilat on the Red Sea

  • Morning airport transfer for domestic flight to Eilat.
  • Descend into a Red Sea coral reef at Eilat’s Underwater Observatory where you look out the window at the surrounding marine life. Continue exploring Eilat’s remarkable undersea world at the observatory’s aquarium.
  • Lunch on own

Tuesday, 11 July – The Wonders of Petra

  • Early departure for Petra to explore the amazing red sandstone structures carved by the ancient Nabateans. Enter Jordan at the Arava Crossing and travel to Petra by bus (approx. 2.5 hours). Tour its Treasury (“Khaznieh”), Roman theatre, impressive caves and rock formations of this Nabatean City. Buffet lunch included.
  • Return to Eilat.
  • Dinner on own

Wednesday, 12 July – Red Sea Delight

  • Red Sea Sail – Board a luxury touring yacht at the Eilat marina for a leisurely cruise and lunch on the Red Sea. Snorkeling equipment is available for a closer look with the most exquisite coral reefs and tropical fish to be found in the world.
  • Evening domestic flight to Ben Gurion Airport.
  • Check-in for U.S. flight at Ben Gurion Airport Terminal 3.
